Black Desert Resort
Space for Creativity to Soar
The red mountains, black lava tubes, and white Navajo sandstone landscape of Southern Utah have sparked creativity and awe for generations — even serving as the backdrop for a pop star’s music video. It should come as no surprise that the area is the perfect setting for a luxury resort that hosts meetings requiring creative thinking and big ideas.
Black Desert Resort, located over 600 acres in the ancient lava fields of Greater Zion in Ivins, Utah, is as expansive as the land it occupies. In the center of it all sits the Resort Center, the property’s hub, which holds 200 of its 791 guest rooms and all the resort’s meeting space, including 3 ballrooms totaling 17,400 SF. With over 45,000 square feet combined indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, Black Desert Resort is ideal for any occasion.

Wellness Inspired by Nature
The hub is also where you’ll find its spa and wellness center, opening in May 2025, with signature treatments such as a warm therapeutic pool, Sensory Lounge, fire pit, salt inhalation booth, and a lava sauna inspired by Black Desert Resort’s natural surroundings.
As Southern Utah’s newest luxury hotel, Black Desert Resort’s look and feel are distinctly modern, offering a “luxury without pretense” experience rooted in the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. The bold contrasts of the nearby black lava fields, red rocks, and clear blue skies informed not only the resort’s colors but also its textures and patterns, creating a design that is both contemporary and rooted in the land, recalling the rugged beauty of Southern Utah.

A Golfer’s Getaway in Utah
If you had to pick Black Desert Resort’s standout feature, it would be the 19-hole championship golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf (his 73rd and final course). One of only three courses in the United States to host both a PGA and LPGA tournament, Black Desert Resort’s golf course features:
- Hole-by-hole commentary by Weiskopf
- Dining and drinks via Club 73 and the Oasis, the latter serving up Dole Whips
- Text service for on-course, on-demand food and beverage delivery
- A pro shop
- A 19th-hole lakeside gathering area, built amphitheater-style into the black lava rocks
- A 2-acre, 36-hole putting green, perfect for a group team-building challenge
For guests who opt to stay at the Terrace, the course is but a few steps away from the main lobby. Wake up and walk out for a quick game before your first meeting or after your last (with a drink from Club 73). Not a golfer? Book either restaurant for use as a unique event space with unobstructed views of the open skies and red rocks from the course.
Celebrate and Conserve: Black Desert Resort’s Sustainability Efforts
Black Desert Resort’s stunning landscape comes from its location at the heart of three significant geographical convergences: the Colorado Plateau, the Great Basin, and the Mojave Desert. In fact, the black rocks seen in promotional images are remnants of Basalt lava that flowed from the local volcanoes 2.3 million years ago. Talk about a historic Utah hotel!
Geographic trivia notwithstanding, Black Desert Resort also benefits from 300 days of sunshine and proximity to several state and national parks, including Snow Canyon State Park less than a mile away. Affectionately known as “Little Zion” by locals, Snow Canyon has similar views but fewer crowds than its big brother. Get help exploring the canyon and beyond with help from the resort’s in-house recreation team, who can help arrange guided activities such as e-biking, hiking, stargazing, and canyoneering. Black Desert Resort is also one of the only Utah resorts of its caliber near Zion National Park, which is around 40 minutes away by car. For those wanting a day trip, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is only two hours away.
Knowing how much of its charm comes from its natural environment, Black Desert Resort employs multiple conservation methods as part of its sustainability efforts. In addition to in-house waste management and recycling and using low-voltage power and gray water for irrigation, Black Desert Resort is a certified member of the Audubon International Signature Sanctuary and has helped preserve 200 acres for trails and the future home of a nature center.
